Live on the Meet Magento App!

So my super smart friend Kuba has made an app for the Meet Magento conference series. Pretty cool right?

Today I switched the schedule from Meet Magento Spain to Meet Magento Germany and my face was there. Whoa.

  • Meet Magento Germany Agenda
  • Description of my Presentation
  • My Bio for Meet Magento Germany
  • Mixed in the lineup of amazing speakers!

Also crazy to see my name listed as a “Featured Speaker” for the event by Amasty in their post Meet Magento Germany 2014 [INFOGRAPHIC].

All this attention is pretty surreal. Only 16 days left to practice!

How I Get Things Done

Two years ago, probably less, if someone tried to convince me a calendar was my friend I would’ve started twitching. To be honest, I’m still not a fan of planning out details far in advance, but I’ve learned how to get organized a bit better. Now I’m often asked how I get things done, so here’s my $0.02.

I’ll recap the tools I use in a minute, but first I want to point out that I strongly believe your mindset and ability to prioritize trump any tool you can find. As Brian Fanzo mentioned in our Task Management #CMGRHangout last week:

You cannot throw a tool at a communication or culture problem, you have to fix that problem first.

My biggest secret to getting things done?

  1. Figure out your goals.
  2. Prioritize your tasks based on what accomplishes those goals.

Everything else fills in where it fits.

You have to decide what your highest priorities are and have the courage—pleasantly, smilingly, unapologetically—to say no to other things. And the way you do that is by having a bigger ‘yes’ burning inside.
—Stephen R. Covey

Task Management

Probably the most important task management tool I use right now is Reasons I love it:

  1. It’s very mobile friendly.
  2. I can add tasks from my desktop.
  3. I can add tasks from Gmail.
  4. It’s pretty.
  5. It makes me plan my day.

Relationship Management

Nimble. Nimble. Nimble. Did I mention Nimble? Alyson reached out to interview me recently about how we use Nimble with Bella Minds and My Community ManagerA Nimble Awakening for a Community Manager on the Move.

Seriously, though. I used to think I could manage relationships without a CRM. Ha.

Reasons Nimble rocks my world:

  1. It shows my communication history with anyone.
  2. I can collaborate with teammates on who we know.
  3. I can tag people with topics or how they’ve helped out.
  4. I get reminders when it’s been too long since I talked to someone.
  5. It’s pretty.

Yes, I realize “It’s pretty.” was a top 5 reason for both of these tools. My degree was in Graphic Design. It matters.

I could probably rabbit trail through a few more tools like Google Drive, Google Calendar and Slack, but I want to stay focused so for now that’s all.

Matilda can now hunt geese from the balcony. That’s a first.
